Jordan coach Ray Wilkins has named his final 23-man squad for next month’s AFC Asian Cup 2015.
In a surprise move, Wilkins has opted for younger squad, leaving out experienced players Hassan Abdel-Fattah (87 caps), Amer Deeb (98) along with Romanian-based striker Tha’er Al-Bawab.
Veteran goalkeeper Amer Shafi, who was left out of their recent friendly with Estonia, earned a recall and his experience will be crucial in a team in which eight players have less than 10 caps.
The squad will now enter a training camp within Jordan after a planned training camp in the UAE was cancelled. They will travel to the UAE to face Uzbekistan in a friendly in Dubai on December 21, before travelling to Australia where they will be based in southeastern Melbourne.
Jordan will hold further two friendly matches against the UAE on the Gold Coast on December 30, and against Bahrain in Ballarat on January 4, before they open their Asian Cup campaign against Iraq on in Brisbane on January 12.
Jordan have been drawn in Group D alongside Iraq, Japan and Palestine.
