Newly-appointed coach Cosmin Olaroiu has announced a squad consisting of many of the same faces from ’s disappointing Gulf Cup of Nations final loss to Qatar last month.

Yahya Al-Shehri, Shaye Ali Sharahili, Mukhtar Fallatah and the uncapped Saeed Al-Muwallad are notable omissions, while captain , Gulf Cup of Nations MVP Nawaf Al-Abid and the controversial AFC Player of the Year Nasser Al-Shamrani keep their places in the squad, with experience taking precedence over future-proofing.

The three-time winners will face stiff group stage opposition in their attempts to bring the title back to the Gulf state, starting with China in Brisbane on January 10, before facing DPR Korea and Uzbekistan in the following week.
