Djamel Belmadi on Thursday announced ’s 23-man squad to take part in next month’s AFC in Australia.

The Gulf Cup of Nations champions have omitted Mosaab Mahmoud and veteran midfielder Wesam Rizik from their title winning squad for the upcoming tournament, while Mohammed Muntari and Mohammed Tresor Abdullah have received votes of confidence to potentially earn their first caps for their country.

The tiny Gulf nation has been in fine form in the lead up to the competition, undefeated in their last nine competitive and friendly matches, including convincing wins over fellow Asian Cup participants Uzbekistan, DPR Korea and host nation Australia.

The 2011 tournament hosts will play a final friendly in Qatar against Estonia before heading to their Asian Cup base of Canberra, where they will play warm up matches against Oman and New Zealand. They will begin their Asian Cup campaign the following week, against UAE on January 11 in Canberra before facing Iran and Bahrain.
