Marjan Eid’s Bahrain finalised their squad on Wednesday to compete in next month’s AFC Asian Cup.
Al-Muharraq’s Sayed Jafer will continue as the nations first choice goalkeeper and captain of The Reds, while Qatar-based striking duo Jaycee John and Faouzi Aish will join Mohamed Hasan as the only foreign players in a mostly-local squad.
Seven players from both Bahraini Premier League champions Riffa SC and runners-up Al-Muharraq form the core of a squad looking to better their semi-final performance in the tournament’s 2004 edition.
Bahrain, currently ranked 122nd by FIFA, are currently training in their Ballarat home base for the tournament and turned some heads with an impressive 4-1 victory over Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
They will begin their Asian Cup campaign in Group C alongside Iran, UAE and Qatar.
