Former Kashiwa Reysol and Japan youth international Shuhei Hotta has signed with Thai Division 1 League side Songkhla United FC.
The 25-year-old defender most recently played for Albirex Niigata Singapore, having spent four years with the J-League satellite club following three seasons with Consadole Sapporo, during which time he made just two appearances in the 2010 season.
After playing the majority of games during his time in Singapore’s S-League, as well as starting each of his 22 appearances last year, Hotta is regarded by his new club’s vice president as a valuable addition.
“We have signed Shuhei for a regular position,” Vice-President Sunpetch Boonyapithak said via the club’s official Facebook page. “He is a centre back with good control and greater mobility, which will be good (for our team). The team’s coach will (have the depth to) rotate the players through league season.”
Hotta will wear the number 16 shirt at his new club, founded in 2009 under the name of Buriram Football Club and relegated to the 18-team second division after finishing the 2014 Thai Premier League season in 18th place.
