Iraqi club Erbil SC have signed national team veterans Younis Mahmoud and Nashat Akram for their upcoming AFC Cup 2015 campaign.
Iraq captain Younis joined the Yellow Castle on a free transfer after being released by Saudi Premier League side Al Ahli, while Nashat previously played in a short stint for Erbil rivals Al-Shorta.
However, Erbil president Abdullah Majid stated that the two players will not be included into the Iraqi Premier League team roster but only for the Asian encounters.
“We have signed two big names to the team, and they will certainly be a strong addition for our squad in the club’s preparation ahead of AFC Cup,” Majid said in an official statement according to Iraq Akhbar.
The 2014 AFC Cup runners-up have been drawn against Kuwaiti giants Al Qadsia, Tajikistan champions FC Istiklol and Turkmenistan side FC Ahal in the group stage.
