Reigning Finnish champions HJK Helsinki on Monday announced the acquisition of Japanese striker Mike Havenaar through August on a free transfer.
The 194-centimetre-tall Hiroshima native, whose family took Japanese citizenship in 1994, moved to Spain’s Cordoba in August after two seasons in with Vitesse. But he failed to crack the starting lineup and cancelled his contract in December with just five Liga appearances.
The 27-year-old, who was most recently called up for Japan’s national team in 2013, joins fellow countryman Atomu Tanaka, who signed for HJK earlier this year.
The reigning Veikkausliiga champions, who also unveiled veteran Swedish goalkeeper Daniel Örlund, will begin their title defence on April 12.
