Football Federation Australia (FFA) and the Japan Football Association (JFA) have agreed to provide two referees each to the J-League and A-League respectively for their current seasons, it has been announced.
Yudai Yamamoto, who officiated during the AFC Asian Cup in Australia this year, will referee Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers on March 8 and Adelaide United vs Central Coast Mariners on March 12.
Kazuyoshi Enomoto will officiate Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United on March 29 and Brisbane Roar vs Central Coast Mariners on April 2.
Australian referees Chris Beath and Jarred Gillett will travel to Japan to officiate two yet-to-be-announced games on April 27 and May 3; a team including Ben Williams will oversee Japan’s two international friendlies against Tunisia and Uzbekistan in late March.
“The exchange program is designed to help referees from both countries gain valuable international experience,” explained FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson, “as well as expose players in the Hyundai A-League and J-League to different styles of officiating.”
“As part of our referee’s strategic plan, one of the important aspects is to offer our referees meaningful international experience which will enable them to become better referees.
“This will be the first time that Australian referees have been invited to officiate in the J-League which will provide us with an excellent opportunity to showcase our referees in another top quality domestic league.“
