The Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) has appointed Sriwijaya FC’s Benny Dollo as a caretaker coach following the dismissal of Alfred Riedl.
The PSSI decided to release Riedl from his contract following poor results and a failure to meet the Merah Putih squad’s target of winning last year’s AFF Suzuki Cup.
A statement from PSSI general secretary Joko Driyono said the 64-year-old head tactician will take temporary charge of the team until a permanent foreign coach is named.
“We have not been able to sign a new foreign coach for the national side due to obvious reasons (including the postponement of Indonesia Super League 2015),” Joko told reporters.
“Regarding the current situation, this is our best plan which is [in line with] the views of the Indonesia National Team Management and also the Technical Director.”
Benny will take his third spell with the national side after previously stints in 2000-2001 and 2008-2010. His best achievement was leading Indonesia to the 2008 Independence Cup title in Jakarta.
