Azkals star Chris Greatwich has announced that he will be taking a break from playing for his nation for the “foreseeable future.”
The British-born midfielder explained via social media why he did not travel with the Azkals for the country’s upcoming friendly in Bahrain.
“Last week I met with Coach [Thomas] Dooley,” said Greatwich, “and told him I would be taking a break from International football for a while.
“It has been the greatest privilege to play for Philippines for the past 10 years but for now I like to spend more time with my family, especially my baby Nico.”
The 31-year-old will continue to play for FC Kaya in the United Premier League, where he also works as the club’s academy director.
“Thanks to all the players, staff and fans who’ve supported us over the years and I wish the team the best of luck in the future,” Greatwich aded.
His younger brother, FC Loyola Meralco Sparks midfielder Simon Greatwich, is currently with the Azkals squad. The national team will face Bahrain on March 30.
