Philippines coach Thomas Dooley is looking for a commitment from striker Javier Patino following his training camp absence.
The Spain-born attacker hasn’t featured for the Azkals since a March 2014 friendly against Azerbaijan, and did not participate in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup or the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup.
Dooley has reportedly become frustrated with the 27-year-old’s refusal to accept a national team call-up despite his good form with Henan Jianye, for whom he has scored three goals in three appearances in the Chinese Super League
“Javier would have been perfect for us,” the coach said according to Inquirer, “But we don’t know if he still wants to play for us.
“I don’t know what happened to Javier. It looks like he doesn’t want to play for the Philippines. If that’s the case, he has to [confirm his situation] with the federation.”
Dooley, a former captain of the United States national team, appears resigned to leave the 27-year-old off his June squad for World Cup/Asian Cup joint qualifying.
“It’s not good for the team when we don’t know he’s coming or not,” he added before the Azkals fell 2-1 to Bahrain in a friendly match held on Monday.
