The UAE’s current generation of stars can lead the West Asian nation to glory, Al Ain striker Jires Kembo-Ekoko said this week.
In an interview with the Arabian Gulf League website, the Democratic Republic of Congo international insisted that teammate Omar Abdulrahman and Al Jazira standout Ali Mabkhout, who put in star turns during the 2015 Asian Cup, have put The White on the right track.
“Omar Abdulrahman and Ali Mabkhout are the best UAE players for me,” Ekoko said. “I believe that Omar has still not yet reached his potential and can achieve more.
“However, I’m sure that the future of the UAE national team is very bright with these two players.”
Abdulrahman was widely considered a contender for the tournament’s most valuable player award after leading the Emirati to a third place finish, while Mabkhout clinch the Golden Boot trophy with his five goals.
UAE will be looking to qualify for their first World Cup since 1990 when qualifying for Russia 2018 begins in June.
