Matt Smith

defender has expressed satisfaction with his good form in the opening of the season.

The 32-year-old Australian defender has shown positive momentum in the last six games for the Glass Rabbits, including two goals scored since joining from Brisbane Roar last December.

“Obviously, my main priority is to help the team defensively and ensure we do not give away too many opportunities to our opponents,” Smith told ESPN.

“If I can also help the team by chipping in with a few goals, it would be nice. At any opportunity, I go forward so, fingers crossed, I can get on the scoresheet a few more times.”

Ricardo Rodriguez’s side currently sit on the third of table and the English-born defender is keen to maintain the good start, but rejects any notion that Glass can already be considered title contenders.

“I think it is too early to say,” Smith added, “It is, however, important to start the campaign well and I believe that we will keep progressing as a team,” he added.
