Davies playing for Perth in 2014
Pahang FA have announced that they have secured the services of Matthew Davies from A-League side Perth Glory for the Malaysian Super League 2015 campaign.
The 20-year-old Australian-born Malaysian defender, a product of FFA Centre of Excellence program in 2011, will now play in his mother’s homeland after making 16 appearances for the Australian club in the last two seasons.
“I’d like to thank the fans and supporters (at Perth Glory) for their continued loyalty,” Davies said according to FourFourTwo.
“It’s been a difficult decision to leave a club which has been at the top of the table for most of the season but I feel this is the best move for my career going forward.”
As a result of his Malaysian heritage, Davies will reportedly receive Malaysian citizenship and be able to register as a local player.
With the 2015 SEA Games fast approaching, the right back could be the third mixed-heritage player to wear the Harimau Malaya shirt following Brendan Gan and Junior Eldstal if he is selected for the national team.
