Chinese national team coach Alain Perrin rued a “difficult” draw against Qatar in Asian qualifying for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup.
The 2015 Asian Cup quarter finalists landed in Group D along with Maldives, Bhutan, Hong Kong, and the 2022 World Cup hosts.
“Against Qatar it will be difficult,” Perrin said according to AFP, “but it’s important to compete everywhere in the world if we want to go to the World Cup.”
Perrain has four years of coaching experience in Qatar, including time spent leading the country’s Olympic team.
“I know Qatar,” the Frenchman reflected, “I know what they can do [in the qualifiers] and it will be difficult. We will have to prepare for our games well.”
China, who are looking to compete in their first World Cup since 2002, will open their qualifying campaign on June 16 at group stage debutants Bhutan.
