Singapore coach Bernd Stange is optimistic with his team’s chances in Asian joint qualifying after being drawn in a challenging Group E.
The Lions will face Asian powerhouse Japan as well as Syria, Afghanistan and Cambodia in their quest to reach the next round of World Cup qualifying.
“Our group is a challenging one. Having said that, I am optimistic,” the 67 year-old German coach said in a statement issued through the Football Association of Singapore.
“I am not underestimating any of our opponents but we must aim to get as many points as possible from our matches.
“We will prepare ourselves well for the matches, and we look forward to our fans turning up at our home matches to support and get behind the Lions.”
The four-time AFF Suzuki Cup winners will kick off their campaign on June 11 with an away match against Cambodia before hosting Japan on June 16.
