The Vietnamese Football Federation (VFF) has decided to impose lifetime bans on six players who were found guilty of fixing a V-League match in 2014.
The six are Pham Huu Phat, Nguyen Thanh Long Giang, Dinh Kien Trung, Nguyen Duc Thien, Ha Niem Tien and Phan Luu The Son, former Dong Nai FC players who were detained by police in July last year.
According to the police investigation, suspicions were raised following their team’s 5-3 defeat to Quang Ninh Coal in the 2014 V-League.
Team captain Huu Phat, who was accused of being the group’s mastermind, received a fine of roughly US$1,400 for his actions; the other five players were fined $950 each with appeals a possibility.
The VFF are no stranger to match fixing scandals; Vissai Ninh Binh were forced to withdraw from last year’s V-League after caught attempting to fix an AFC Cup match against Malaysian side Kelantan FA.
