Afiq Azmi is determined to keep shining for Selangor FA as he looks to secure a call-up to the Malaysia national squad ahead of joint World Cup and Asian Cup qualifying.
The Red Giants striker has scored seven goals in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) this season, more than any other local player, with a stunning recent surge of form.
Azmi became the first Malaysian footballer to hold the record for the MLS’s fastest hat trick last week during a 4-0 victory over Singaporean side LionsXII.
“My focus now for Selangor, but if the national team want me to join then I will be fully ready,” the 26 year-old striker said as quoted by Utusan.
“I want to prove that Malaysian strikers can score many goals in the league. We should not only hang our hopes on foreign players, as a local player we can prove our quality which is not much better than them.”
The former Kelantan FA forward joined Selangor in 2013 after winning the Malaysian Cup in the previous season with the Red Warriors.
