Carlos Queiroz has completed his surprise return to Team Melli after reaching an agreement with the Iran Football Federation (FFIRI) to remain as head coach until the 2018 World Cup.
The 62-year-old had previously announced his resignation on March 31 after a 3-0 friendly defeat to Sweden, claiming that he didn’t get support from the Iranian sporting authorities.
“I had a good session with the Federation and Iran’s sports minister officials today,” Queiroz told reporters. “We are looking forward to the future.”
The former Real Madrid tactician assumed his current post in April 2011, successfully leading the team to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Iran have been drawn in Group D of the second round of joint qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup along with Guam, India, Oman, and Turkmenistan.
