Indonesian midfielder Irfan Bachdim made his first J2 appearance on Sunday in Consadole Sapporo’s 3-0 win over leaders Jubilo Iwata.
The eight-minute stint at the Sapporo Dome marked the 26-year-old’s J-League debut after appearing last season in the Emperor’s Cup and J-League Cup for Ventforet Kofu.
After replacing Brazilian teammate Nildo on the right wing, Irfan drew cheers from the crowd when he streaked up the sideline and sent a well-placed cross in his first play.
“It’s great to have earned my first J-League appearance” the player said after the match. “I’m happy that I was able to play in front of our wonderful supporters. It’s a small first step but terrific motivation.
“I want to work harder for my fans in Indonesia and Hokkaido, and help give Indonesia’s young players an opportunity to play in the J-League one day.”
Irfan echoed the comments in tweets to his nearly 4.5 million followers, promising fans that he would “work even harder.”
Consadole, who won via Ken Tokura’s brace and an additional goal by Yoshihiro Uchimura, rose to sixth place in Japan’s second flight, while Jubilo fell to third.
