Bare playing for Gamba Osaka in a 2008 AFC Champions League fixture
J1 League strugglers Ventforet Kofu on Sunday announced the tentative return of former striker Bare to the last-place club, who are desperate to find both goals and points in this year’s campaign.
The Brazilian is no stranger to the J-League: after contributing to Omiya Ardija’s promotion from the second division in 2004, Bare joined Ventforet in 2005, scoring 21 goals in 38 appearances to help secure an appearance in that season’s Promotion-Relegation Playoff.
In the second leg at Kashiwa Reysol, his double hat trick set a J-League record for the most goals scored in one match by an individual player.
His performance for Gamba Osaka in 2007 and 2008, which featured 30 goals in 49 appearances, earned the Gremio academy product a reported $8.3 million transfer to the UAE’s Al-Ahli where he won the 2008-09 UAE Pro League title.
The 33-year-old joining his Ventforet teammates on Sunday, working out with the team’s physical coach and showing off a physique nine kilograms lighter than when he last played in Japan in a brief stint for Shimizu S-Pulse in 2013.
“It felt great to be applauded so warmly,” Bare said of the 100-strong crowd who turned up to the practice ground at Yamanashi University to Hochi. “I’m happy to see some familiar faces.
“Everyone understands the situation the team is in, and I wanted to help out and keep Ventforet in the J1.”
Club officials hope to formally register Bare in time for their May 10 fixture against Shonan Bellmare.
