Vietnam star Le Cong Vinh has indicated that his country’s aim is to qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup in UAE.
Ahead of the first group stage. which also serves as joint qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, The Golden Star were drawn into Group F along with Iraq, Chinese Taipei, and South-East Asia rivals Thailand and Indonesia.
Although the Becamex Binh Duong striker insisted that World Cup spot will not be a realistic target, he was confident that Toshiya Miura’s men can book a ticket to UAE in four years.
“The qualifiers will be a good opportunity for us to elevate our position in the international standings,” said the 29-year-old.
“Personally, I think it’s hard for us to reach the World Cup but not for Asian Cup, especially after the expansion [to 24 teams].”
Vietnam will host a friendly against North Korea on May 17 before starting their qualifying campaign against Thailand on May 24 in Bangkok’s Rajamangala Stadium.
