Flying Socceroos winger Mathew Leckie has complimented this year’s Asian Cup win with a 2.Bundesliga title as FC Ingolstadt 04 earned their first-ever promotion to the top division.
Leckie scored the equaliser for Germany’s youngest professional club in their 2-1 home win over RB Leipzig to finish on top of the second division with one game remaining in the season.
Ingolstadt signed Leckie in June last year and the Socceroo star has gone on to provide seven goals and seven assists in 31 appearances.
A goal to Leipzig’s Dominik Kaiser in the fourth minute was cancelled out when Leckie sent Benjamin Bellot the wrong way with his first half penalty, before Stefan Lex pounced on a Bellot error in the 77th minute to earn three points for the Bavarian side.
Ingolstadt will play their final game of the season on Sunday against promotion challengers Kaiserslauten.
