LionsXII win first ever Malaysian FA Cup title

won its first ever Malaysian FA Cup title with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over at Bukit Jalil Stadium Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

It was the first ever FA Cup final appearance for the Singaporean outfit while the opponents, Kelantan had won the cup twice in 2012 and 2013.

Rising star Faris Ramli scored the first goal for the Lions XII in the sixth minute to put LionsXII in the first half of regular time, slotting the ball into an empty net after receiving a decent pass from Izzdin Shafiq.

The Red Warriors got an equaliser in the second half when star attacking midfielder Wan Zack Haikal scored at the 63th minute, nipping the ball infront of the goal following the Gilmar’s flick header.

However, a poor mistake by Nik Shahrul at the 81st minute, who under no pressure executed a sloppy pass giving the ball straight to Sahil Suhaimi, allowing the young striker to give a crucial lead for LionsXII.

The 2013 Super League champions wrapped up the game in stoppage time after Suhaimi was brought down by Amirizdwan Taj challenge inside the box, he successfully converted the penalty and secure Lions first ever FA Cup title.
