Maldives national team star Ali Ashfaq has revealed his pleasure to be involved in the Malaysia XI friendly match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night.
The 29-year-old PDRM FA striker, who has enjoyed an impressive stint in Malaysia since his arrival last year, was selected as one of five foreign players to face the English Premier League outfit at Shah Alam Stadium.
“It was a great pleasure to play against such a wonderful team,” Ashfaq told Maldivesoccer. “I want to thank all of them who have helped me to make this happen.
“Especially Malaysian coach Dollah Salleh and the management of Football Association of Maldives (FAM), and also the peoples of the Maldives for their continuous support.”
Harry Kane’s brace gave the 2-1 victory to Spurs. However, the former New Radiant ace insisted that he was not disappointed with the loss, insisting the team have provided a hard-fought battle.
“I am happy with the performance and they are much better than us. You all can see the difference between Tottenham and us. But we managed to score a goal and created good chances,” he added.
