Cambodia’s World Cup qualification preparation stuttered as they suffered a 2-0 loss to Metfone C-League team Ministry of National Defense FC on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium.
Cambodia will meet Singapore on Thursday evening for their opening group E game in round 2 of the 2018 World Cup qualification preliminaries.
Their opponents recorded a decisive 5-1 victory over Southeast Asian minnow Brunei on Saturday, leaving head coach Bernd Stange in an optimistic mood for their June 11 encounter with Kazunori Ohara’s Cambodia squad.
Goals from Hariss Harun, Shaiful Esah, Fazrul Nawaz and a double from hotshot forward Khairul Amri ensured the hosts ended their World Cup qualification preparation on a high note.
Cambodia’s last outing was decidedly less positive, with the Angkor Warriors falling to a 2-0 loss to Metfone C-League team Ministry of National Defense FC on Sunday at the Olympic Stadium.
Two goals from Pom Darang in the first half condemned the national team to a shock loss to their less illustrious league opponents.
Coach Ohara will have to work hard to prepare the side ahead of Thursday’s qualifier.
The game will kick-off at 6:30 pm at Olympic Stadium, with tickets ranging in price from 5,000 riel for category four to 30,000 riel for category one seating. The match will also be screened live on BTV.
