FC Seoul on Tuesday announced the signing of former Western Sydney Wanderers and Sanfrecce Hiroshima midfielder Yojiro Takahagi to a 2.5-year contract.
After spending all but one season of his career with Sanfrecce, the club he joined in 2003, 28-year-old Takahagi departed Japan this winter in order to join reigning Asian champions Wanderers.
He was released by the Australian side after making 11 A-League appearances as well as six in the AFC Champions League. But rather than return to the J-League, Takahagi has chosen to become the third Japanese player in FC Seoul following Masakiyo Maezono and Sergio Escudero.
The Fukushima native will be familiar with Seoul, having faced them four times in ACL play and visited Seoul World Cup Stadium as a part of Japan’s 2013 East Asian Cup-winning side.
Takahagi, who was named to the J-League’s Best XI in 2012, is expected to make his K-League debut in July once his registration is completed.
