Timor Leste coach Fabio Magrao has confirmed Thiago Cunha and Heberty Fernandes may have to wait for his team debut as they await Fifa’s international clearances for the two Thai Premier League strikers.
Thiago currently plays for Chonburi while Heberty at Ratchaburi, have pledged their allegiance to the Rising Sun squad and Magrao is hoping to have them available for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers.
The South East Asia nation have made an application for a nationality switch for the Brazilian-born duo since several months ago, but still need the further clearances before the switch is officially approved.
“I knew both Thiago and Heberty’s quality, they are great splayer and will give our squad more options on the attacking side,” the 37-year-old tactician told Goal.
“However, the federation (FFTL) told me that the team management is still waiting the international clearances for them. But, indeed, I believe that they will join us as soon as possible once it is completed.”
Timor Leste held Malaysia 1-1 in their opening qualifying campaign on June 11 before lost 1-0 to UAE on last Tuesday despite having a hard-fought battle against the 2015 Asian Cup third-placed team.
