A new attendance record was set at the 80th Birthday Stadium for the Thai Premier League match between Nakhon Ratchasima and Buriram United in the South-Esan derby on Saturday.
Reportedly 34,689 peoples packed into the stadium to see the Korat’s 1-1 draw game against title holders Buriram United. The host opened their lead through Sarawut Masuk’s effort in the 17th minute before Sittichok Kannoo equalising the score for Buriram in the second half.
The previous highest attendance record for the TPL was in May last year when Buriram hosted Muangthong United in front of 33,325 attendances at the Thunder Castle Stadium.
The new attendance record will be music to the ears of Football Association of Thailand (FAT) who have been aggressively building the TPL as their premium domestic competition in recent years.
