With the Myanmar National League results on the slide, Yadanarbon’s season seemingly rests on General Aung San Shield glory after reaching the quarterfinals of tournament.
The three times MNL winners advanced to the round of 16 domestic cup impressively with a 9-0 victory over MNL second-tier side Horizon FC on last Saturday, which enlarged their opportunity to clinch a title as their MNL campaign is hanging in the balance.
A league defeat by the arch-rival Yangon United in the early this month has slowed Yadanarbon’s dream to defend their league title as they trail first-placed Yangon by 13 points.
“We didn’t perform well at the beginning but I’m satisfied with my team’s second half playing style,” said Yadanarbon coach Rene Desaeyere was quoted by Myanmar Times after the game against Horizon.
“We prepared for the match to take victory. We don’t have the chance to win the 2015 MNL title, so we’re focusing on winning the General Aung San Shield.”
Yadanarbon are scheduled to face Hantharwady United in the General Aung San Shield quarterfinals next month.
