Ceres have clinched their first Philippines’ United Football League title in debut season after punctuating a successful 2015 campaign with a 6-0 victory over Socceroo at Rizal Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
It was the second league titles in a row for the Bacolod-based club after previously having claimed the UFL Division 2 title last year.
Ceres La Salle have recorded a better result with a goal-fest win with two games to spare despite only needed a draw to ensure they would put enough distance between themselves and their three closest rivals including the defending champions Global FC.
“We are the champions, proud to be part in this team. Nothing is for free, you need to work hard and even like this others are also doing the same, now time to celebrate,” wrote team captain Juan Luis Guirado in a delight statement on his Instagram account.
The title win sees Ali Go’s men secure one of two places available for the Philippines in next year’s AFC Cup with previously Ceres missed out in this season’s continental campaign after losing to Maldivian side Maziya S&RC in play-off round.
