Australia have decided to withdraw their team from the AFF U-19 Youth Championship which will be held in Laos between August 22 and September 4.
The decision came as a response from the Young Socceroos coaching staff to the team’s failure to qualify for the U-20 World Cup this year in New Zealand.
Paul Okon men’s withdrawal news broke out for the first time this week when Thailand U-19 team manager Nattapol Teepasuwan revealed that his squad would need to have a new approach after Australia pulling out.
“We’ll have to adjust our preparations, as Australia decided to withdraw, our first match in Laos won’t be as scheduled,” he told Goal Thailand.
While Football Federation of Australia (FFA) confirmed that they would not send a team to the event, despite the tournament could serve them more significant preparation for AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers in September.
“Team management has taken a different strategy to prepare for the AFC U-19 Championship qualifiers,” a FFA spokesperson said.
