Iran international Alireza Jahanbakhsh who used to ply his trade at 2nd tier Dutch team, NEC, switched to join Eredivisie’s top team AZ Alkmaar on a five-year contract.
The 21 year-old Iranian striker who helped 2nd tier NEC advance to top tier league last season, reportedly had had several offers from other countries but opted to stay in Netherlands and chose AZ Alkmaar in a five-year deal worth €2m. Jahanbakhsh, set to wear number 9 jersey, is a replacement for Steven Berghuis, who left for English side Watford.
Last season, Jahanbakhsh was named Eerste Divisie player of the season after netting 12 goals and providing 17 assists in 28 league matches.
The former NEC striker could make his debut against Romania’s FC Astra on Thursday, Aug 13th in the Europa League.
