Johor Darul Takzim have been crowned 2015 Malaysia Super League title despite ended their campaign with a 2-1 loss to Felda United at MP Selayang stadium on Saturday night.
A defeat to Felda could cost the Southern Tigers’ hope to clinch the trophy for the second time in a row, but their rivals Pahang, who had only two points difference, blew away their chance after losing 3-1 to Terengganu.
Shahrul Saad put Felda ahead with his fast goal in the fourth minute of the game, before former Malaysian veteran striker Indra Putra Mahayuddin doubled the lead for ths host five minutes later.
Argentinian forward Luciano Figueroa halved the deficit for Mario Gomez’s men in the 34th minute from the penalty spot.
“Hopefully the triumph will inspire the Southern Tigers to continue prevailing in their future challenges,” Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin congratulated the team’s sucess.
The victory will see JDT become Malaysian football representatives in continental competition, where they are set to compete in the first round of 2016 AFC Champions League qualifiers.
