Liverpool legend Riise joins Indian side Delhi Dynamos

have completed the signing of former full-back ahead of the Indian Super League campaign this year.

The 34-year-old, who spent seven years at The Reds, previously played for Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia last season before his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

“I spoke to the president of the club and I spoke to Luis Garcia and he loved playing in last year. So although it is quite far away it was quite an easy decision,”he tols Sky Sports.

“They love the English Premier League in India and there is a lot of love for Liverpool and the other big Premier League teams. Football and the league over there is growing and I hope I can help them by giving my best and helping them to grow even more.

“I used to love travelling all over the world with Liverpool and the club has so many fans abroad. I’m looking forward to the events that Delhi Dynamos have got planned and meeting and connecting with the Liverpool fans there.”

Riise, who is Norway’s most capped international player, revealed that he is looking forward to play under Roberto Carlos’s guidance as the club player-manager.

“Roberto Carlos was one of my biggest heroes growing up and now I have the chance to play under him. I can’t wait for him to be my coach now and I will do my best for him and for the team,” he added.

“Pre-season training starts in a week and I can’t wait to meet to Roberto and the rest of the players and the staff.”

Riise became the second biggest signing for Dynamos after previously unveiling the arrival of former Chelsea star Florent Malouda.
