Guangzhou Evergrande are primed for an semifinal spot after securing a 3-1 victory at Kashiwa Reysol’s home in the first leg of quarterfinal tie on Tuesday.

An early own goal by Kashiwa captain Daisuke Suzuki put the 2013 champions ahead before the fabolous free-kick strike from Brazilian midfielder Paulinho doubled the Luiz Felipe Scolari’s men advantage.

Gao Lin extended the visitors’ lead with a towering header early in the second half before Masato Kudo cut the deficit for the Japanese side with a close-range effort late in the game.

In the other game, last season’s runners-up Al Hilal prevailed 4-1 at an empty King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh against Qatari giants Lekhwiya.

The Saudi side opened their account through Brazilian striker Ailton’s effort in the early game who took an advantage from a mistake of goalkeeper Amine Lecomte.

Lekhwiya equalised through Youssef M’Sakni but it did not hold for long after Khalid Al Kabi gave another lead for the host. Carlos Eduardo completed the 4-1 rout with his brace.
