Istiklol head coach Mubin Ergashev was over the moon after seeing his players ship four unanswered goals in their AFC Cup quarterfinal’s first leg win over Pahang FA.
Dilshov Vasiev netted twice for the Tajikistan champions while Iranian defender Mehdi Chahjouyi and midfielder Khurshed Makhmudov also found the Malaysian side’s net.
“I am pleased with how my team showed attacking and beautiful football tonight,” said Ergashev after the game. “I think we made it a happy evening for our fans and everyone who supported us.
“The team played very well. They followed all my instructions. We created a lot of chances to score and hammered in four goals.
“I don’t think we re already in the semifinal. We should be careful. The team will prepare well for the second match. Pahang will try for their fans in Malaysia, but our aim is to continue in the tournament.”
The return leg is scheduled to play on September 16 at Darul Makmur Stadium where Tok Gajah will have to dig themselves out of a huge hole to overturn the deficit.
