Neil Etheridge is confident that Walsall can upset Chelsea after being handed a dream draw at home to the English Premier League champions in the third round of Capital One Cup.
The Philippines international goalkeeper, who began his career as a youngster with Chelsea, believes they can push them all the way on home turf against the defending champions on September 23.
“For me Chelsea is where it all began many, many years ago,” said the 25-year-old. “Growing up in London it is a club I have followed throughout my career.
“To play them here at home, I think we have really got a chance. People might say I am crazy but we have pulled off a win in previous rounds, so there is no reason why we can’t beat Chelsea at home as well.
“The boys really wanted a big Premier League side. Me not so much, I want the best chance of progressing further in the competition,” he added.
Etheridge is set to join the Azkals for the upcoming friendly against Maldives on September 3 and 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers game against Uzbekistan on September 8.
