Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has been warned by the country’s Youth and Sports minister Khairy Jamaluddin that it faces possible suspension following the poor displays of national team recently.
Khairy has called for a complete overhaul of the FAM, especially after the Harimau Malaya’s disastrous 10-0 defeat to the UAE in the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers on last Thursday.
It was Malaysia’s heaviest international defeat, overtaking a 8-2 thrashing by New Zealand in 1967. As result, he revealed that he has an consideration to use his ministerial powers to take drastic action.
“I will call FAM officials to give me a full report on the fiasco and if they still recycle their earlier excuses, than I will have no option but to exercise the powers vested in me once I have concrete evidence to do so,” said Khairy.
“They (FAM) should start asking themselves if they should be there and pretend like nothing had happened, even after such a shameful incident.
“If FAM keeps on pretending like nothing had happened and comes up with their recycled lame excuses, then I am left with no choice but to carry out the last option, which is to ban FAM,” he added.
