national team have appointed former head coach , to replace Ismail Mehfooz as interim coach.

Position of the Red Snappers’ coach previously was vacated following the resignation of Bulgaria’s Velizar Popov after six months took his reign.

The 54-year-old tactician moved to the South Asian nation two years after finishing up as All Whites coach, where he completed a nine-year stint with the Oceanian giants.

Herbert, who oversaw New Zealand’s unbeaten campaign at the 2010 World Cup, was a coach of last-placed NorthEast United in the inaugural Indian Super League last year.

Maldives are winless in their 2018 World Cup qualifier campaign after three matches, with five matches still to play. Their next group game is away to Bhutan on October 8.
