Fabio Lopez has been named as the new coach of Bangladesh national team after signing a four-month contract on Thursday.
The 42-year-old, who had a playing career as a goalkeeper, came as a replacement for Dutch coach Lodewijk de Kruif who previously led the Bengali Tigers to the second round of 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers.
Lopez is familiar with Asian football as he previously coached Indonesian side PSMS Medan, Maldives’ BG Sports Club and became a technical director at Malaysian club Sabah FA.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has also appointed his Italian compatriots Costantino Zuccarini and Angelo Pavia to work together as assistant and fitness coach.
Bangladesh will continue their qualifying campaign with an aim to clinch the first victory after four matches, in an away game against Kyrgyzstan on October 13.
