The official draw of AFC U-23 Championship 2016 was conducted at the Four Seasons Hotel in the Qatar capital city of Doha on Saturday afternoon.
The 16 participating teams are split into four groups of four teams. The top two teams in each group (eight teams in total) will qualify for the knockout stage.
The winner, the runners-up and the third-placed team will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Football Tournament.
The participating nations (listed in the order of their seedings) are Qatar (hosts), Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, South Korea, Australia, Syria, Japan, UAE, Iran, North Korea Korea, Uzbekistan, China, Yemen, Thailand, Vietnam.
The result of the draw put holders Iraq into easy group with Korea Republic, Uzbekistan, Yemen while Japan were drawn into ‘Group of Death’ with last edition’s runner up Saudi Arabia, DPR Korea and Thailand
