Xavi made his official Al-Sadd debut on Sunday and provided a trademark assist as his new employers defeated Al Mesaimeer 4-0.
In front of 2,254 spectators at Mesaimeer, the former Barcelona star made his first start in the Qatar Stars League and set up a typically pinpoint free-kick in the ninth minute with Lee Jung-Soo meeting the delivery to open the score.
Of the Al Sadd’s four goals, the other three goals were provided by Brazilian striker Muriqui with his hat-trick to round off the rout.
“I’m enjoying my game more than ever,” said the 35-year-old midfielder after the game. “I’m really surprised by the standard of football here. At first the lads in the team were a bit shy around me, but now they even try to nutmeg me.”
