Al Ahli coach Cosmin Olaroiu heaped praise on his side after they drew 1-1 with Al Hilal in the first leg of their AFC Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
Olaroiu was thrilled when his side went ahead in the 57th minute after Lima headed home a Everton Ribeiro’s free kick.
However, Al Ahli were unable to hold on for the win as Al Hilal striker Ailton brought his side level via a header in the 82nd minute.
Al Ahli have the upper hand heading into the second leg on home soil, but Olaroiu knows his side will need to be at their best in the second leg if they’re to reach their first AFC Champions League final.
“We did not expect it to be an easy game,” Olaroiu said. “We know they have good team and quality players and the super fans made it difficult to control possession, but we succeeded in what we wanted to do.
“We scored but we were not able to win, and even had a chance to score at the end of the game, which would have changed the situation a little bit. But overall it is a positive result, but still not enough to qualify. We have one match left back home to prepare for.”
