Istiklol coach Mubin Ergashev admitted that he was impressed by Rogerinho and Vinicius Lopes, who led Kuwait SC to defeat his side 4-0 in the first leg of the AFC Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
The Brazilian duo performed very well during the game at Al Kuwait Sports Club Stadium, with Lopes netted a hat-trick, including a brace from penalty spot, while Rogerinho gave a constant threat to the Tajikistan champions’ defence.
“In the first half we played very well defensively and we managed to stop our opponents,” said the Tajik coach in a post-match conference.
“However, in the second period the players were tired after chasing the ball and Kuwait SC have players like Rogerio Coutinho (Rogerinho) and Vinicius Lopes who made the difference.
“We were ready for the tough match and we knew that it was going to be difficult. Kuwait SC proved that they are one of the best teams in the competition but we will try our best to make a good comeback in the second leg.”
Kuwait SC, the three-time champions, are on the verge of a record-breaking fifth appearance in the AFC Cup final, will visit Dushanbe to play the return leg at Central Republican Stadium on October 21.
