Chinese striker Yu Dabao has challenged his teammates to put their best performances in the upcoming 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers match against Qatar on Thursday.
The Team Dragon, who currently sit in second place on the Group C standings with seven points, will face the West Asian side that is unbeaten after three matches at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Doha.
“We mustn’t lose the match. We aim to win it away. And even if we don’t play well, we must at least come away with a point.” the 27-year-old forward told FIFA.
“It is important that we maintain the pressure on our rivals in order that we can finish ahead of them to reach the last 12.”
The Beijing Guoan star is also confident that his team will provide the best display and not worried of the Qatar’s threat despite the opponents have proved to be a thorn in China’s side in previous meetings.
“I have played against Qatar and for me, they are no better than us,” he claimed. “Our team are in the ascendancy and the Qatar team are not as strong as they used to be.
“We suffered a couple of defeats against them before, but we lost due to psychological reasons rather than strengths.
“So we should prepare ourselves by feeling strong. We are not afraid of Qatar and we are capable of getting three points on their soil.”
