Thailand moved five points clear of Iraq at the top of Group F of and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers after beating South-East Asian rivals Vietnam 3-0 at My Dinh Stadium on Tuesday.

Chonburi star Kroekrit Thaweekarn sent the War Elephants to lead in the 30th minute before an own-goal from Dinh Tien Thanh in the 56th minute and a Theeraton Bunmathan’s close-range strike in the 70th minute completed a convincing victory for the visitors.

In Group C, the  2022 World Cup hosts continued their 100 per cent record by thrashing Maldives 4-0 thanks to a Boualem Khoukhi double, which saw them currently have won five straight games in the group.

While extended their lead over Asian Cup champion Australia in in Group B after defeating Tajikistan 3-0 through Hassan Abdel Fattah and a double from Hamza Al-Daradreh.

Osama Omari scored a hat trick and Mahmoud Al Mawas netted twice in Syria’s 5-2 win over Afghanistan in Group E. The victory over Central Asian opponents sent them now sit two points clear of Japan, who have a game in hand, at the top.

Earlier in the day, Malaysia claimed their first win in Group A after clinching a narrow 1-0 victory over Timor Leste at Dili National Stadium, while North Korea strengthened their position at the top of Group H, with Jong Il-gwan’s early penalty proving decisive in a 1-0 home win over Yemen.
