Maya Yoshida has warned Saints to be wary of his Japan national team colleague Shinji Okazaki when Leicester City come to St Mary’s today.
The defender knows the dangers of seven-goal Premier League top-scorer Jamie Vardy but advised Ronald Koeman’s side not to forget about fellow striker Okazaki.
Yoshida, who has just returned from playing Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers against Syria and Iran with Japan, also knows Leicester’s strengths lie in their attack but wants Saints to exploit their defensive frailties.
“They have done very well this season,” he said about the fifth-place outfit. “It has been really similar to us in last season.
“So they have enough confidence and playing with pleasure. As an attacking part they do very well, score a lot. Vardy’s on fire now but I know all about Okazaki. He plays very well. But defensively they concede a lot as well.
“So I think we have a good opportunity to score and also normally we play good defensively. So just try to make another clean-sheet and we will wait for some chances to score.”
