German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have discussed a chance to establish football academy in Vietnam in the near future.
The academy is the first to be established in South-East Asia with Malaysia is also on their list, while another Dortmund’s Asia-based academy outside of Germany is located in Japan which was built three years ago.
“Dortmund have been planning on the construction of a football academy in Vietnam for a long time,” said Karl-Heinz Riedle as the former player and club’s representative was quoted by Tuoi Tre.
Riedle, who was a part of Dortmund’s success in the 1996/97 UEFA Champions League triumph, has visited Vietnam earlier this week to hold further talks regarding the plan.
In March, the eight-time Bundesliga winners have also sealed a long-term development programme with Malaysia Super League side Johor Darul Ta’zim in a bid to promote and raise the standard of Malaysian football.
