Diego Emilio Silva will be hoping to cap his fine season on Sunday when he turns out with his Lanexang United teammates in the sides must-win encounter against Hoang Anh Attapeu.
Lanexang are tied at the top with rivals Lao Toyota FC although Toyota, runners-up in last seasons competition, can secure the league title and with it a place in the prestigious Toyota Mekong Club Championship 2015, by overcoming fourth-placed Lao Police FC.
The Uruguayan hitman has bagged 18 goals in just 18 appearances this season and will hope to cap a fine debut season in the Lao Premier League by firing his side to the league title.
Silva is impressed with the philosophy of the club that has helped him excel to become one of the leagues most feared strikers. “When you have good people and good players around you everything is made easier. [Lanexang] are becoming better day by day and so I have confidence in them.”
Despite sitting in second-place in the standings, the 28-year old forward feels Lanexang are more deserving of the league trophy. “Toyota are a top side, but I feel we deserve it more. But football is not about deserving so we’ll just have to wait and see. And do our best.” he said. “I hope the title will be ours.”
Silva picked out his terrific winning goal at the very death against title contenders SHB Vientiane as a highlight of his time at the club and one which had a profound impact on both himself and the destiny of the league trophy. “We were on the same points and I scored in the 95th, the very last minute. He said. “It was a very emotional moment for me and I couldn’t stop crying even as I came back to the dressing room. It helped us on our way to where we are today and means we are still in with a chance.”
The forward welcomed the support of fans in what has been a remarkable season for the South American journeyman. “I want to thank them all for their support, they always say hello in the street. Keep coming to the games, and the players will continue to play our best, give everything to make them happy.” He added.
Lanexang will face Hoang Anh Attapeu away at 5 pm tomorrow, while league leaders Lao Toyota will meet Lao Police at home.
